    May 8, 2017 /

It’s May already!? More the point – it’s almost halfway through 2017 already!? Where do I start? We filmed and released Shakespeare Republic: #LoveTheBard (Season Two) AND prepped, filmed, edited and premiered the newest addition to the Shakespeare Republic stable: the Shakespeare short film Speaking Daggers.  I’m back on the documentary Champion, with completion for that film on track, plus have one play and two more screen projects in development.  So let’s break that down, shall we? SPEAKING DAGGERS This little gem was a blast to work on and involved a fantastic cast and crew that I was so delighted to work with. Featuring Michala Banas, Nadine Garner, Christopher Kirby,…

So much has been happening over these past few months that it is somewhat of a blur!  But in the spirit of not leaving it another year before posting updates, here is a bit about what’s been happening in the world of Sally over these last three months … I’m going to start with the latest news and move backwards, just because I can.  And so that means that I’m beginning with last weekend’s Melbourne Web Fest, which anyone following my Twitter feed, Facebook page or Instagram may be sick of hearing about, but I promise this will be the last public mention of it I make … for now 🙂…

Jack Irish, Shakespeare Republic and other fun stuff!

    March 30, 2016 /

Despite my good intentions to update this blog more often, once again nearly four months has gone by.  But my excuse is a good one, as I’ve been truly busy on so many fronts, I’ve had no time to share the news! So here goes … JACK IRISH I had an absolute blast on Jack Irish (which shot late last year) and was very much looking forward to seeing the whole series when it began airing last month.  And I wasn’t disappointed.  Great cast (if I say so myself), great writing, great direction, great tone – loved it!  You can still catch the series in full on ABC’s iView until March 31st, and…

The Medea Project, Shakespeare Republic and other reports from the classical world …

    November 24, 2015 /

November is a busy month! Lots to share with you, so let’s get going … THE MEDEA PROJECT I have been involved in a fantastic theatrical production, The Medea Project, which explores the Greek myth of Medea, using the original classical text with a modern twist.  Songs, text, storytelling.  The sharing of a tragedy through the eyes of three women.  It has been challenging, no question, but working with fantastic cast Kristina Benton and Hannah Gott, under the direction of Perri Cummings has also been a joy.  It is a celebration and exploration about women and the trials and tribulations we are still facing today.  We open tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov 25) and…

    November 3, 2015 /

Shakespeare Republic has finally fully aired on our YouTube Channel (and Vimeo) and is now doing the film festival rounds.  We have some exciting news coming up on that front, to be revealed soon, and some lovely feedback from many quarters both in Australia and overseas. My episode was the last in this first season, and I include it here below for convenience: [vimeo id=”143406592″ maxwidth=”900″ align=”center” autoplay=”no” aspect_ratio=”16:9″] To see the full series, visit the official website here: http://shakespearerepublic.com/ In other news, I just recently shot a role for the new series of Jack Irish and my episode of Utopia went to air last month, which was a lot of fun.…

    Shakespeare Republic launches next week!

    August 19, 2015 /

It’s been all systems go over the past couple of months, but I’m certainly not complaining! Firstly, my feature documentary, A Life Unexpected, continues filming with shoots in Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, interviewing more Sporting luminaries for the film.  I’ve also managed to fit two more acting gigs into the mix, both for the ABC, which were such fun and I’m really looking forward to seeing them go to air (both later this year) and the big news this week is that my passion project, Shakespeare Republic had it’s official launch on Tuesday and Episode 1 featuring Alan Fletcher airs next Wednesday at 11am! The trailer for the…

    June 3, 2015 /

It has been a while since I’ve posted an update here, but it’s been for the very good reason that I’ve been so busy with my various projects – and some acting gigs thrown in for good measure! Firstly – welcome to the new look SallyMcLean.com.  They say a change is as good as a holiday, and a change in look was long overdue, so here we are.  Sections of the website are still being added to, but the basic structure is pretty much done.  I’m finding it’s akin to getting used to a new haircut, but it has been a lot of fun going through all my photos and…

Another of Sally’s books published – this time for actors

    January 21, 2015 /

In between all the other bits and pieces going on last year (that wrap up will be live here soon), I also managed to publish not just my book of poetry (a long held goal), but also this second book “O For A Muse Of Fire: Quotes On Acting From Pioneers Of The Stage“. I am so very proud of this collection of quotes.  It took months of research, immersing myself in the history of the acting business, exploring the lives and recorded thoughts of so many fascinating actors, writers, directors and others who had come before, from all around the world, and I loved every minute of it. Available…

Sally’s first published book of poetry – now available!

    January 17, 2015 /

Yes, it’s true.  I have finally taken the plunge and am delighted to announce that my first book of poetry “Talking With Myself (a collection of poetical monologues) has finally been published and is available on Amazon.com and at all good booksellers worldwide. I am so thrilled to finally have my work out there in this genre of writing – poetry was the first thing I wrote before moving into script and playwriting, and to be able to finally have a small collection of my works available to the public in book form is a long-term goal finally realised. I also illustrated the work using my latest favourite visual medium,…

Today, November 18th, 2013, marks the 100th anniversary of Franz Stampfl’s birth.  To honour the occasion, here is the latest trailer from my documentary project “A Life Unexpected”, which tells the story of Franz Stampfl’s life and career, featuring some of the fascinating people I’ve had the honour of  interviewing for the film to date. In addition to Sir Roger Bannister, Sir Christopher Chataway, Ulick O’Connor and members of the Stampfl family, you will also hear from John Landy, Ralph Doubell and Tim Lincoln (son of Merv Lincoln), among others.
