Fun things done this year – White Night Melbourne 2013

On a warm Summer night early in 2013, Melbourne came out to play en masse for twelve breathtaking hours, enjoying lights, performances, displays and pure magic all over town.

The inaugural White Night Melbourne event, which took place from 7pm Saturday February 23rd to 7am Sunday February 24th, was attended by an estimated 300,000 people (I heard reports of half to three quarters of a million) who wandered around the 80+ free events, displays and performances spread over eight precincts around the city.

This footage only covers two precincts and was shot between 3am and 6am on the 24th (when there were still fair few people out!). It was an extraordinary and truly magical night (loved having a latte at 5.30am outside The Arts Centre at the sidewalk cafe near the Spiegeltent, soaking up the carnival atmosphere) and I can’t wait for the next one! (I’ll make sure I take my actual video camera instead of the stills one this was shot on and a tripod as well!). Enjoy.

PS – As I only got to one small part of the night, I thought it only fair to find another video that covered more of what was going on that evening.  And Tourism Victoria have done a great job with this gem.  So here it is for your viewing enjoyment:

‘Till next time!
