“Playing The Bard” at Howard Fine Acting Studio Australia will now be taking place from Tuesday May 21 until June 25, just before Howard Fine returns to Australia for his mid-year Master Class! I am delighted to be returning to the Studio as HFAS resident Shakespeare teacher and faculty member to once more work with a brand new crop of actors and share with them the techniques I use when working with my fabulous award-winning Shakespeare Republic cast. Actors of all experience levels are welcome to come play with me in this six week course that is designed to help actors truly make Shakespeare’s works and words their own!
Using the tools developed over four years of developing and directing Shakespeare Republic and related Shakespeare projects, as well as my years of experience playing Shakespeare on stage in both Australia and the UK, this course is focused on empowering actors to delve deep into Shakespeare’s text, create place and embody character, and bring Shakespeare’s words truly to life in a 21st Century context. This six week course culminates in a live presentation of the work for family, friends and invited guests at the final class.
Students will also have the chance to take part in a Q&A with one of my fabulous Shakespeare Republic ensemble in a special session during the course. I’m speaking with a couple of my lovely cast members at the moment and will announce which one will be our Special Guest for the course in the next couple of weeks via social media on the Shakespeare Republic Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.
Added bonus: HFAS Australia are currently offering 20% off all short courses until midnight on Sunday 28 April! The discount will be auto-applied at checkout (meaning there are no fiddly codes to remember) and there are no limits on the amount of courses or places you can use the discount for!
So, take the leap! You now have more time to book in and a few more days to take advantage of the awesome Easter sale currently on offer at HFAS! Join me in class to begin (or continue) your adventure with Shakespeare, his language and your performance of his text!
Huge thanks to my lovely students and colleagues who provided such amazing feedback after doing the course last year (as quoted in this post), the wonderful Phoebe Anne Taylor and Billy Smedley (core Republic team members) who took photos during the various classes taught to date and to the fab cinematographer (and another core member of the Republic team) Shaun Herbertson for filming the final open class in May last year, from which the short video clip was sourced.
